Mushroom Identifier
Identify mushroom species from a photo with AI and a curated database.
My roleMobile developer · Vision model integration
Mushroom Identifier is an AI-powered iOS app that identifies mushroom species from photos. Users capture or upload images and receive instant recognition along with detailed information about habitat, characteristics, and toxicity. Includes a comprehensive mushroom database, educational articles, and a personal collection manager — designed for foragers, hobbyists, and nature enthusiasts.
How I built it
Project notesForagers and hobbyists needed a reliable identification tool that recognises mushroom species from a single photo, flags toxicity, and educates users — all in an experience polished enough to compete with hobbyist field guides.
Wired the OpenAI vision model to a curated mushroom reference database with habitat, identification cues, and toxicity flags. Built a personal collection manager with offline access to identified species. Adapty drives the paywall; AppsFlyer and Amplitude cover acquisition and engagement.
Live on the App Store. The provider-agnostic vision pipeline means new models can be added without touching the identification UI or the species reference data.
